Friday nights Ward 5 meeting was excellent. Tinti who will be taking over the reigns as our next Chief of Police was the guest speaker and after hearing what he had to say I have high hopes.
October 31st will be the date this changing of the guard will take place, He is coming in to an already heavy work load, but I feel very strongly that he has what it takes to do the job and do it well.
Tinti is a very personable guy, funny, engaging and is of the old school variety of officer but with a modern twist. He is community oriented, embraces technology, utilizes crime analysis programs and will be proactive in reducing crime.
He has plans to make quite a few changes here in our city, most of these changes are things many of us have discussed and stated we would like to see more or less of. One thing I have to say is the man listens!
Our new chief plans to get officers out of their vehicles and interacting more with the community, having a few out walking the beat and generally becoming a bit more accessible and approachable to the public.
His philosophy is that there are 80 officers total on our police force and in a city this size we should know each one of them by name.
Each Lieutenant in charge of his or her shift will be responsible and accountable for all officers. They will be the liaisons to the community.
Tinti has already submitted a grant to hire 8 more officers which will add to the ranks and make having more patrols and more interaction a lot easier.
What really caught my attention the most was how he wants to have a more cohesive blend of our city's resources. Which would help tackle many of our quality of life issues. He stated instead of simply doing a block by block he would like to go door to door. Having officers talk to residents and business owners and addressing known hot spots. He believes as a city we should all be working together.
I was impressed with Tinti's attitude and his future plans. Actively enforcing the laws of our city when it comes to quality of life problems in my opinion is going to make an enormous impact. His proactive approach will I hope make our city's criminal element think twice.
Although many of us want instant satisfaction in reality this is a huge undertaking for Tinti and all our Police officers. Change doesn't happen overnight but it will happen. He estimates that it should take anywhere from 4 to 8 months to fully implement most of his plans and I for one look forward to seeing the transformation.
I don't know all of the officers at KPD but the ones I have had the privilege of meeting are good people, it will be a pleasure to eventually know them all and see them out and about in our neighborhoods.
*****I was going to also do a recap of the Meet and Greet of the candidates for ward 5 that took place but seeing as I am one of them somehow I don't think I'd be very impartial. If you'd like any information on that portion of the evening our Alderman Jen Fuentes or anyone else who attended would be the best ones to ask*****

Outstanding... and this is as important, really, as Tinti's intentions: we have to know them, we have to know the intent, we have to know to look for them, see them, know they were not by accident and know that if it's not happening, Chief Tinti wants to know!
Keep this stuff coming. And keep it coming in print... people say things, but that is way not enough... when you want your words to stick, you write them down and you give them to people.
I've heard some words about Tinti, but here they are now, in writing. Your writing is a great contribution to the actual policing. And Chief Tinti can see that what he said was heard, and he see, now or wherever he wants to, that a citizen liked what he read a whole lot!
Chief Tinti is very talented police officer who cares about the community. For any police agency to succeed, the police, in partnership with the public, must work together to achieve the primary mission of the agency which is crime prevention.
Mere words alone will not accomplish this but active participation by the community will.
I'm pretty biased about the Alderman candidates too... You are hands down the most qualified and competent to lead the Ward after January 1.
Thank you for the excellent summary of Tinti's presentation. I was inspired by his words and vision for our city and look forward to working with him.
Alderman Jen Fuentes
You're almost to the finish line. Good Luck!!!
