| Metro CommUnity Party |
As many of you know sometime in August a few of us came together to do something special for the kids and families here in Kingston. We decided to put together an anti violence themed community party to show our children that we care and want to see them succeed.
Finally all our hard work came to fruition but I ended up getting much more than I expected from this event. I worked hard, I asked for donations and volunteers, I lifted 250lb stage pieces and what I got in return was a field full of happy children. I got to come together with members of my community and have a really great time, I also got to see first hand how truly generous people could be. Many businesses donated food for this event and many people donated their time to make it special. To all of you I give my deepest thanks!
The Metro Community Party held on October 1st was in my opinion a huge success. Over one hundred members of the community came out to celebrate our youth and share in the spirit of unity and non violence. The children danced, sang karaoke, played a rough and tumble game of football with our DA Holley Carnright and if all the laughter and thank you’s were any indication a good time was had by all.
This coming together could not have been accomplished without the generosity of so many of the wonderful organizations, volunteers and businesses that grace our city.
The Kingston Fire Department came out with a truck and some handouts for everyone. Members of Kingston Police Dept. were also there to join in the fun donating hamburgers and hot dogs and along with the fire dept. helped my husband Patrick man the grill and feed everyone. With my husband doing the grilling it was a relief to know that our emergency service personnel were on hand.
Deising’s donated pastries and rolls, Stewarts gave us hamburger and hot dog buns, Hannaford and Wal-Mart provided the soda and water and over seventeen pizzas were donated by Cousins, Villa Carmela, Domino’s, La Roma, DiBellas, Plaza, K&G Pizzeria, Kings, Riccardi’s, Picnic and Sami’s.
Jillie’s Kickin Karaoke had everyone up, dancing and singing like superstars which made the entire event spectacular.
The Den Teen Dance Club, Pine Street Farm, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Kingston Cares all set up booths and The Boys and Girls Club gave tours of their facility.
I would also like to acknowledge the Metropolitan Knothole League and Mayor Sottile for allowing us the use of their ball field for the event and our DPW workers who came out and spruced the area up a bit.
Much hard work and caring went into making this day possible and to everyone who came out to help and everyone who came to share in the fun I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
