The Things Kids Say

As you know my children are a very big part of my campaign. They help me with materials, printing, folding, handing things out. They go door to door with me as well and sometimes this can be where I run into one of those kids say the darnedest things moments.

My children while out and about have treated myself and others to their pearls of wisdom, which range from adorably sweet to please let the ground open up beneath me. I figured I'd share some of these with you.

When asked how campaigning was going : " we aren't allowed to camplain, mom says it's rude.

When someone didn't answer the door: "maybe they are hiding inside like you do when the jova bible people come"

To an elderly lady: " Did your hair used to be Red?, cause my Mom's is turning white too."

To a Vietnam vet: "My daddy is a veteran too so I'm going to give you a hug from him"

"That cat just pooped in your yard, his poop is smaller than my dogs"

"You gotta vote for my Mom cause she'll give us ice cream"

When I apologized if I interrupted someones dinner, " Wow you are eating dinner? My mom said we can't eat until we are done going door to door...there are ALOT of doors around here "

When asked would you vote for your Mom? " She can't be on American Idol cause she's so old"

When told how cute they are.." yea just like my Dad,... he tells me to say that.

When offered a lollipop, "Nope, can't take that cause your strange and I can't take anything from strange people My Mom told me so."

In kid whisper, " MOM THAT GUY JUST SAID A CURSE WORD....IN FRONT OF A KID!" ( I think he was meaning his little brother, or maybe even himself..lol)

When told I have a lovely family, " Not Gabe he's evil he peed on my bed"

Of course if you are a parent you know all about these special little moments. Kids just don't have one of those screens inside their heads that allow us adults to not say exactly what comes to mind. Thankfully everyone we have had the privilege of talking to has had a great sense of humor.

Going door to door is my favorite part of campaigning and believe it or not it's theirs too. They have received history lessons about our city from the very people who lived it. Their little egos have been puffed up from the praise and attention of fellow community members. I think this has and will continue to be a wonderful lesson for them and it gives them a chance to meet some great people they may not have otherwise.

It gives me some pretty funny stories to tell later on when they are all adults with children of their own.

We need aldermen like this. We need aldermen that work, communicate and are involved... but gee, does one have to live in just one ward in the city to get good representation? The political parties act like poorly functioning unions, looking to increase their membership and success without a whole lot of regard for others... that's a system breakdown. That's a system that rewards people for doing the wrong thing... and penalizes them for not doing the wrong thing. Ah, but there are some people who's reward is in doing the right thing, and the reward comes from within... knowing and doing what is simply an attempt to think and do right
